Bank Feeds & OFX Statements: Where and How to Obtain Them
OFX (Open Financial Exchange) is the international standard file format used by commercial banks and fintech platforms to securely export electronic account statements and transaction histories for accounting reconciliation.
Where and How to Download OFX Files:
- Log In to Online Banking: Access your financial institution’s corporate or retail internet banking portal (e.g., Ecobank, Standard Chartered, Stanbic Bank, GCB Bank, Absa, Zenith, Chase, Bank of America, etc.).
- Locate Account Statements / History: Navigate to your account overview, Transaction History, or Download Statements section.
- Select Date Range: Choose your reconciliation period (e.g., previous month or custom calendar date range).
- Choose Export Format:
In the download/export dropdown, look for OFX (often displayed as "Open Financial Exchange", "MS Money (.ofx)", or "Financial Software Format").
[!NOTE] If your specific local bank does not provide OFX downloads, select CSV (Comma Delimited) or QIF. QoBooks supports standard CSV exports and maps date, payee/narration, reference, and debit/credit amounts automatically.
- Import into QoBooks:
Save the
.ofxor.csvfile to your device. Navigate to Banking > Reconciliation, select your account, and upload the statement to auto-match cleared debits and credits against your recorded transactions.
